Use color to lead through a prehistoric-inspired scene.

Pick one main dinosaur color, then use a lighter or darker version for its neighboring shapes. Plates, horns and scales can supply accents without needing a new color for every detail. On a pair page, repeat part of the palette to suggest a family or deliberately contrast the two characters.

Keep distant hills and water quieter than the foreground creature. For a striped or spotted dinosaur, add your marks lightly on paper before deepening the color. The fossil tray is a decorative discovery scene rather than an anatomical reference; use a scientific source when you need factual species details.

Try a small project

Select three different body forms and give them one shared habitat palette. Arrange the completed pages as an imaginary expedition and name the places, rather than treating the pictures as factual reconstructions.
