Choose the kind of coloring you want.
A broad road vehicle
The little car has a clear body silhouette, large wheels and a quiet background. Try a bright body with a pale window color.
A little car, a big cloud ↗A train to decorate
The steam train offers repeated wheels and different body sections. Repeat two colors along those sections to connect the whole engine.
The little steam train ↗A different kind of journey
Large sails sit above gentle waves. Separate sail, hull and water with three distinct colors.
Sailboat on gentle waves ↗Keep the vehicle readable against its surroundings.
Choose the largest body panel first, then use a second color for the smaller panels or trim. Dark tires and lighter windows can help organize a road vehicle, but these are creative choices rather than rules. Leave a strip of paper white if you want a simple shine on a window.
For a train, repeat one accent along the cars or wheel centers. For a boat, change the direction of your pencil marks between the sail and water. In aircraft scenes, use a light sky so the wing outline remains easy to see. The drawings are stylized scenes rather than technical vehicle diagrams.
Try a small project
Make a journey set with one road, one rail and one water or air page. Use a shared color on all three, then draw a paper map linking their imagined destinations.
