Keep the animal distinct from the water.

Water does not have to be one solid blue. On paper, leave light gaps between soft layers or use curved strokes to follow a wave. Choose a stronger or warmer color for the animal if the background is cool.

For turtle shells, repeat a short sequence across the outlined sections. In a reef scene, pick two coral colors and reuse them instead of assigning every branch a new one. These are stylized creative scenes, not marine identification charts.
