The open body and large star leave room for a bold main color. Try a different color through the mane.

The braids create repeated small sections. Work along one strand before moving to the next.

Winged horses by the coast

This hornless Pegasus family combines wings with a coastal setting. Separate feather groups from the water with different colors.

Plan the mane as a color sequence.

Choose three colors and repeat them along the mane instead of changing color at every curve. You can keep the body pale so the mane becomes the focus, or reverse that choice with a bright body and a quiet mane.

On winged horses, follow the feather shapes outward. A shared light color across the wings can connect several rows while small stronger accents pick out the tips. Horned and hornless fantasy horses are identified in the individual previews.

Try a small project

Color a unicorn and a Pegasus with the same mane sequence. Add a separate drawing of the place where they might meet.
