Coloring ideas

Let the wing silhouette lead.

Use one color family for the main animal and a quieter family for the sky or sea. Keep narrow wing contours light until the large spaces are filled. A portrait changes the scale: focus on snout, neck and folded-wing shapes before the smaller frame details.

Pterosaurs were flying reptiles, separate from dinosaurs. Pterodactylus and Pteranodon are different genera; Pteranodon had a toothless beak. These are stylized imaginative pictures, not scientific anatomy plates. Explore the Natural History Museum pterosaur collection for fossil references.

Try a small project

Choose a flight page and a resting page. Use the same sky color to connect the two views, then point out which parts of the silhouette are visible in each pose.
